A Fresh Cup is Mike Gunderloy's software development weblog, covering Ruby on Rails and whatever else I find interesting in the universe of software. I'm a full-time Rails developer and contributor, available for long- or short-term consulting, with solid experience in working as part of a distributed team. If you'd like to hire me, drop me a line. I'm also the author of Rails Rescue Handbook and Rails Freelancing Handbook.

Double Shot #552

Welcome to October.

  • 10 Must-Have Rails Plugins and Gems (2009 Edition) - I probably wouldn't have picked exactly the same ones, but this list from Relevance is a good start.

  • Gemcutter Update - This alternative gem repo is cooking right along, with a new design and discussion going on of how to tie in gem forks from other places.

  • Semi-persistent Rails cache store with Redis - An introduction to one of the available caches for Rails (and other things).

  • Kicker - A new entrant in the "run stuff automatically" sweepstakes, aimed at OS X. Watch anything, do anything, with built-in recipes with Rails and JavaScript testing.

  • Spree 0.9.0 Released - This open-source e-commerce package has really moved along lately. It's looking really good if you need to get a storefront in to your next project.

  • Request-log-analyzer 1.4.0 - This tool to produce performance reports from logs is getting pretty impressive.

Thanks for mentioning Kicker Mike!

I’m open for any improvements to the recipes :)
