A Fresh Cup is Mike Gunderloy's software development weblog, covering Ruby on Rails and whatever else I find interesting in the universe of software. I'm a full-time Rails developer and contributor, available for long- or short-term consulting, with solid experience in working as part of a distributed team. If you'd like to hire me, drop me a line. I'm also the author of Rails Rescue Handbook and Rails Freelancing Handbook.

Double Shot #554

First full week of the new month. Time to get to work.

  • deeby - Rake tasks for working with multiple database.yml files. I can see this as having good applicability when you deploy a different config on the server that devs don't have access to.

  • Amicus Curiae: Bilski v. Kappos - The Software Freedom Law Center weighs in on software patents.

  • Instant Gem Publishing with Gemcutter - A look at the new kid on the gem block.

  • Block Helpers - A generalization of Rails form helpers to give you another tool for drying up markup.

  • RMagick is Looking for a Maintainer - Here's your chance to take over a prominent piece of open source software.

  • mustache - First steps towards a new way to render pages without sticking logic in views. No Rails hooks yet.
