A Fresh Cup is Mike Gunderloy's software development weblog, covering Ruby on Rails and whatever else I find interesting in the universe of software. I'm a full-time Rails developer and contributor, available for long- or short-term consulting, with solid experience in working as part of a distributed team. If you'd like to hire me, drop me a line. I'm also the author of Rails Rescue Handbook and Rails Freelancing Handbook.

Double Shot #431

Big site launch last night, a few lingering errors this morning but nothing major. Hooray!

  • Ruby Best Practices - A promising-looking new blog, though I'm always skeptical of "best" practices.

  • Remarkable 3.0 is out and it's...well..remarkable! - Major new release of this macro and i18n chunk for rspec matchers.

  • Show Off Your Mockups - Easy integration of HTML mockups into Rails applications.
  • Reader Comments (1)

    Thanks for the mention.

Right on, the term "Best Practices" has a sort of dubious nature to it. But apparently O'Reilly's marketing folks wanted that for the title of my book, and the blog is a continuation of that effort.

I hope you'll find our content unpretentious and practical, despite the title. Here, best practices means "The best Ruby we could come up with in a given context", rather than an "Everyone should do it this way".

For this reason, we're encouraging open conversation about these issues. It already seems to be going well!
