Double Shot #517

There need to be more hours in the day. No, really.
- gemcutter - A project to build a new canonical gem repository to replace RubyForge.
- The i4i v. Microsoft Orders and Permanent Injunction - Groklaw has the details of the shenanigans that are going on revolving around patents and MS Word. I may hate Microsoft, but I hate software patents more - this is nonsense.
- 8 Regular Expressions You Should Know - Complete with pretty colored diagrams.
- Doctype - New Q&A site aimed at web designers.

The regex one is good, the problem is that a LOT of their regex's are just plain WRONG.
eg password - stop people using special chars, eg $ or ^? I hope that doesn't get implemented, 'cos it makes passwords LESS secure.
Same with email addys. Would fail on .govt.nz for example (new zealand government) - same in the UK - .govt.uk. Easy to fix, but as it's a "ones you must know", it's way full of bad practices.
yeah the email one is particularly bad. I hate when people filter + (a plus sign) out of the username portion of the email. It's perfectly valid, in fact gmail uses it to great effect.
I thought Github was the new canonical gem repository?
