A Fresh Cup is Mike Gunderloy's software development weblog, covering Ruby on Rails and whatever else I find interesting in the universe of software. I'm a full-time software developer: most of my time in recent years has been spent writing Rails, though I've dabbled in many other things and like most people who have been writing code for decades I can learn new stuff as needed.

Currently I'm unemployed and starting to look around for my next opportunity as a senior manager, team lead, or lead developer. Drop me a comment if you're interested or email MikeG1 [at] larkfarm.com.

  • Google Data Studio - New tool for building pretty interactive reports on the web.
  • Netlify CMS - Git-backed CMS built in React.js.
  • Pijul - New version control system written in Rust. It's at 0.3 and supposed to be useable if you want to live dangerously.

  • Improve the Bus Factor - Target your open source work by finding much-used libraries with few maintainers.
  • Ruby Heroes Farewell - Frankly, I think this is overdue. As Olivier says, "despite the initial focus of Ruby Heroes having been to shine a light on underappreciated members of the community, it has invariably become a place to annoint respected members of the community..."
  • The RedMonk Programming Language Rankings: January 2017 - Ruby continues its slow decline. Good thing for me I'm moving into management these days.
