It could be really nice if you could elaborate a little bit on this issue.

I see these things on my ubuntu server 9.10, and wonder what it is all about. It only happens some times.
I have a stacktrace like this:

Re: rails indexing, you might want to consider checking out my plugin: http://github.com/samdanavia/ambitious_query_indexer

Rather than looking at the tables and guessing indexes, it locates finders in Rails code, runs queries and sees what indexes are actually needed for the queries that the code contains.

I wrote it a while ago and haven't given it much love since, so I'm eager for feedback :)

I think software testing / test writing will become the new, hot Computer Science concentration in the next 5-8 years, and it'll be both a great thing and a bad thing.

Great thing: Software without a good automated test suite is incomplete software. If this fact is ingrained into developers from the start, the quality of code will start climbing steadily.

Bad thing: Big companies will hire high-paid software test suite writers and lay off developers. They'll send their completed test suite to an inexpensive outsourced development firm and say "Send us the code when you can make all the tests pass." Works out fine if you enjoy writing expansive test suites, but it's tough for those who enjoy the art of coding.

Now... Who will come up with the CS test suite writing curriculum?
