Off to a new week, packed with promise…and deadlines…
September is starting out real slowly for me.
- Unobtrusive Prototype.js - Another PeepCode screencast, this one on a topic I’ve really been meaning to learn about.
Starting a new chunk of work today that looks like it will involve the rails-multisite plugin. Always good to be learning new skills.
- Hosting git Repositories, the Easy (and Secure) Way - Good guide to setting up gitosis. I also needed to recompile git, because Debian’s version is too old for gitosis to be happy.
- Yuma - Do we really need another web scripting language? Maybe not, but there it is.
- Prototip - Nice-looking tooltip library for Prototype.
In the “better late than never” department, I’ve started contributing some code to the google_analytics plugin. Gotta start somewhere.
- Announcing a New Prototype Support Mailing List - For all your Prototype and script.aculo.us needs.
- Engine Yard takes $15mill Series B Round from NEA, Amazon and Benchmark - Hey, leave some for the rest of us! Seriously, though, that’s a great endorsement for Rails.
I am convinced I am going to will the remaining unfixed bugs on one project to my heirs. Time to buckle down for another pass at them, I guess.
- RSpec-1.1.4 - Another maintenance release with a few new bits of syntactic sugar.
- Google-served JavaScript Libraries - You can now host your Prototype and Scriptaculous bits (among others) on Google’s servers.
- Sample OpenID application updated for latest Rails and OpenID gem - Ben Curtis continues to make life easy for folks who want to let folks use OpenID with Rails apps.
Finally got the multi-file upload feature I’ve been wrassling with working. Hopefully this means I can move on to something else soon.
- Widgetfinger - CMS that is designed to automate as much as possible of very small sites.
- LiveHTTPHeaders - Header-monitoring add-in for Firefox. I honestly like ieHTTPHeaders better from a UI point of view - but not enough better to use IE.
- Living on the Edge (of Rails) #20 - Things are moving slowly in edge Rails at the moment.
- Huba Huba - Tidbits for advanced GitHub use. Man, I just can’t keep up with the kids these days.
- Rails 2.1 RC1 - Beans spilled via Twitter.
- Prototype 1.6 PDF - Printable documentation for this javascript library.
- Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 Code Complete - I’ve been using the nightly builds. They’ve stabilized vastly in the last couple of weeks.
- Merbunity - Community site for merb news and tutorials.
- TextMate Bundles for Merb - News from Dr. Nic.
It was a productive weekend; I got a major feature shipped for one of the sites I work on. Now back to the regular workweek.
- Pitfalls in RESTful “wizards” - dealing with page-caching fun in Rails.
- Nightly Tester Tools 2.01 - I don’t think I could live on edge Firefox without this. The ability to selectively recover tabs from the previous session is a winner.
- Stage 0.3.1 - Code generator for Rails and Merb using the presenter pattern.
- Prototip - Flexible tooltips for Prototype/Scriptaculous.
- Scripteka - Library of extensions for Prototype.
- Living on the edge (of Rails) #18 - It’s been a quiet week.
- Making Compact Forms More Accessible - Easiest way I found to get hints in textareas that vanish when users start typing.
- The Apple “i” - Nice sendup of the prototypical Apple keynote.
- Promise and Peril for Alternative Ruby Impls - Probably more Ruby VM gossip than you really need.
My head cold goes on, but so does the Internet. Let’s see what rummaging around lately has tossed up on my desktop.
- A strftime for Prototype - Should be handy if I ever get around to learning Prototype.
- Ruby Cheat Sheets - A selection of useful aids when learning the language.
- Testing in Rails: Part 9 - Attributes and Callbacks - More in the ongoing series from Null is Love.
I fear I have code that is best written to use regular expressions. Hopefully this is not one of those “now you have two problems” cases.
- Testing in Rails: Part 8 - Validations - More from the continuing series over at Null is Love.
- Living on the edge (of Rails) #4 - faster routes, easier form partials - The latest news from the cutting edge.
- Prototype 1.6.0.2 cheat sheet - Some day I’m going to learn Prototype. No, really.
- Feeds for Free - How to get Atom feeds with hAtom decoration and a bit of shim software.
Fortunately, blazing heat in this office does not prevent me from finding things that I want to bookmark.
- Review: RailsSpace hits the Ruby on Rails learning sweet spot - Another potentially interesting “first Rails” book, to compete with AWDR.
- Prototype 1.6.0 release candidate - I should probably check this out, though amusingly I appear to be mostly too conservative about my HTML to actually use Prototype.
Children who don’t sleep make it easier to cruise around the Web.
- Hobo != Scaffolding - An attempt to explain the positioning of the Hobo extensions to Rails.
- Prototype and script.aculo.us - New title from Pragmatic Bookshelf digging into these JavaScript libraries. Now available in beta form.
- Rails Brain - Ajaxy online Rails documentation site. (via Ruby Inside)
- Ya Talkin’ Gibberish: - A Rails localization plugin. I’ve had enough run-ins with localization in the past that I fervently hope not to go there in the future, but it’s nice to know people are thinking about it.
One of these days I need to find time to dig into the Prototype javascript library. What’s New in Prototype 1.5?” covers the new version that just came out. (via dzone)
