A Fresh Cup is Mike Gunderloy's software development weblog, covering Ruby on Rails and whatever else I find interesting in the universe of software. I'm a full-time software developer: most of my time in recent years has been spent writing Rails, though I've dabbled in many other things and like most people who have been writing code for decades I can learn new stuff as needed.

Currently I'm working as a Principal Engineer, lead-of-leads, architect and DBA at Cofense (formerly PhishMe). I'm actively hunting for my next opportunity. Things I am most interested in for my next job:

  • Interesting challenges where I can bring my experience to bear.
  • 100% remote (some travel for team activities is fine, but I've got no interest in working full-time in an office)
  • A top-to-bottom agile environment, in a company that's willing to do the work to make "transparency" and "employee engagement" more than just empty words
  • A company with reasonable prospects and a social conscience (I'm not going to make bombs)
  • The opportunity to make a wider impact in the company, through people management and mentoring as well as technical expertise

I've done a little of a lot of things. I can happily step into an engineering manager, team lead, architect, principal engineer, or other leadership role.
